Biography
Rob began his film career with a brief course at Sydney’s Australian Film, Television and Radio School in 2001. Returning to England, he swiftly enrolled in a one-year film-making diploma at the London Film Academy and flourished in the intensive, creative atmosphere. Learning on Steenbeck and synchroniser, it was here that he came to focus on editing as his career choice. He cut two of the course’s Super 16 films and directed one other.
Moving into the digital world using Final Cut Pro and Avid, Rob met editor Eddie Hamilton and, as his First Assistant Editor, worked on four feature films (including the U.S. #1 hit ‘Resident Evil: Apocalypse’), becoming highly skilled in all stages of the post-production process. He also worked as First Assistant Editor on one further feature (‘Grow Your Own’) with Oscar-nominated editor Joe Walker.
Having edited short films, promos and music videos, Rob cut his first 35mm feature ‘Shirgo’ in 2006, followed by the high-profile feature ‘The Tournament’, an explosive action film starring Robert Carlyle, Ving Rhames and Kelly Hu, theatrically released in 2010. Recent highlights include ‘Red White & Blue’, an award-winning revenge thriller shot in 2009 in Austin, Texas; ‘Devil’s Playground’, an action-horror film starring Craig Fairbrass and Danny Dyer and winner of Best Film at the British Horror Awards 2010; supernatural chiller ‘When the Lights Went Out’, premiering at the Rotterdam International Film Festival in 2012, and ‘The Penguin King 3D’, narrated by Sir David Attenborough.
In 2012 Rob stepped into television drama with ‘The Bible’ (History Channel) later followed by ‘A.D. The Bible Continues’ (NBC), produced by Mark Burnett, Roma Downey and Richard Bedser. The Bible ranked as the #1 cable television show of 2013 and the #1 selling TV miniseries of all time. It is estimated to have been seen by over 100 million viewers. Rob also cut the off-shoot feature film ‘Son of God’, hitting #2 at the U.S. box office and taking $60 million in it’s opening week. During this period he also cut the supernatural chiller ‘Johnny Frank Garrett’s Last Word’ in New Orleans, premiering at SXSW 2016, his fourth collaboration with director Simon Rumley.
After cutting the 2016 feature documentary ‘Bobby’, receiving glowing reviews and premiering at Wembley Stadium, he went on to the action film ‘Final Score’, starring Dave Bautista and Pierce Brosnan, released in theatres in September 2018, and the BBC’s ‘The ABC Murders’, starring John Malkovich and Rupert Grint, premiering on BBC1 on Boxing Day 2018.
Rob next project was ‘The King’s Man’ for 20th Century Studios and and Marv Tailor Pictures, a prequel in the Kingsman franchise starring Ralph Fiennes, Harris Dickinson, Gemma Arterton, Rhys Ifans, Djimon Hounsou, Tom Hollander and Matthew Goode. His most recent film was the hit thriller ‘Fall’, that took over 6 times it’s budget in theatres and reached #1 on Netflix in it’s subsequent streaming release.
